“The Eight Limbs of Yoga”

This dynamic practice synchronizes breath and movement to produce an internal heat designed to purify the body.  Ashtanga yoga, with its many vinyasas, is great for building core strength and toning the body.  As a traditional type of classical Indian yoga, Ashtanga is an ideal practice as a basis for many other types of yoga asana.

Beginners Ashtanga Yoga with Fi

If you’re brand new to yoga or want to perfect your technique, then this course is for you!  Beginners Ashtanga is ideal for anyone who wants to create a firm foundation in their yoga practice and develop their level of fitness.  This course starts gently with an introduction to the synchronisation of body and breath, correct application of ujjayi breathing and use of the bandhas (energy locks).

Ujjayi breathing, or “breath with sound”, uses a slight constriction at the back of the throat to maintain heat within the body and activate the body’s natural cooling system.  Engaging our bandhas, or energy locks, ensures that Ashtanga Yoga is practiced safely by using abdominal strength with minimal effort.  Together, the application of ujjayi breath and core strength enables a continuous flow of movement which strengthens the body, releases myofascial tension, regulates mental and emotional energy and calms the mind.

The Beginners course will run for 8 weeks and include the entire standing series.  Regulars Ashtanga classes will include a focus on one new posture each week.
